CLAIRE’S WORK

  • The US Department of the Treasury’s administrative core—their Departmental Offices—had struggled with difficult-to-use internal communications and sharing systems for many years. As part of the IBM/Octo modernization team, I was able to listen to, understand, and advocate for the system’s users—many of whom make the most important economic decisions in our nation.

  • The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau collects all revenues surrounding the manufacture, import, and sale of tobacco, firearms, and alcohol in the United States. As part of a team tasked with modernizing TTB’s applications, I advocated for user-centered design thinking and a strategic viewpoint.

  • UMass Memorial Health Care’s internal communications websites lacked essential information to help healthcare workers do their jobs. In my role as consultant, I helped draft a comprehensive, persuasive blueprint for change.

  • Cyber defense has become increasingly critical to the security of every nation. Yet the United States has lagged behind in the recruitment, training, and continuing education of our nation’s cyber warriors. The DoD’s Cyber Training Academy (DC3CTA) works to fill that gap by offering in-depth cyber investigation and defense training to members of the U.S. military as well as to civilians employed by the Pentagon and investigative branches of the government.

I served as the solo student experience expert on GDIT’s multi-year, multimillion-dollar contract to provide education and training to our nation’s cyber warriors. My work at the DC3 Academy included:

    Research (analytics and user research)

Content strategy for main and microsites (wireframes, sitemaps, content direction)

Team expansion and development (position requirements, candidate screening and evaluation)

  • Decisionmakers in government and business rely on this small nonprofit for key information. I was hired as a consultant to effect core changes in the way this information was presented to the public.

  • As part of a nascent and small UX team, I helped build a user-centered design practice and extended the organization’s understanding of accessibility beyond simple front-end testing methods.
